PROJECT UPDATE

Thank you for your contribution to the Illegal Dumping public consultation; a copy of the finalised Public Consultation Report is now available in the Documents section to the right of this page.

Illegal dumping is a major issue in Townsville and is one of the most visible indicators of pollution in our environment. Illegally dumped waste is commonly found along roadsides, and in parklands, beaches, waterways, car parks, vacant blocks of land, and in isolated areas like bushland reserves and national parks. Common types of illegal dumping includes:

  • domestic household bags of rubbish and garden waste
  • household goods (such as whitegoods, mattresses and furniture)
  • building (construction and demolition) materials
  • abandoned cars and car parts
  • hazardous waste such as asbestos, tyres or chemical drums.

Council would like to know your thoughts on protecting the environment and public health, safety and amenity. We invite you to fill out the quick survey below with your feedback and recommendations. You can also find a factsheet about Illegal Dumping in the documents library to the right of this page.

Additionally, there is a Places map tool below where you can place a pin and notify council of illegal dumping activities, hotspots or places of interest.

The Illegal Dumping Have Your Say survey will be open for consultation from Monday 1 March, to Friday 30 April.

You can also combat illegal dumping in Townsville by reporting it to Council, joining a community group or joining a clean-up event.
