PROJECT UPDATE (September 2023)

Thank you for your participation in the public consultation, held between Friday 15 January to Monday 1 February 2021, regarding the Northview Lagoon Platform in Fairfield Waters.

Council plans to replace the old timber viewing platform at Northview Lagoon in Fairfield Waters with a new cable pontoon and gangway in the same location. Initially scheduled for delivery in the 2021/22 budget, Council intends to undertake these works in October 2023.

As part of these works, Council will:

  • install a 4m x 3m flat deck pontoon with two mooring cleats, grey rubber fender to all sides, and a brush concrete finish
  • construct gangway anchor block
  • install a 7m long x 1.4m wide gangway with eco-tile decking
  • construct two cable anchor blocks
  • install associated wire rope cabling.

Fencing, flashing lights, dust, and noise may be associated with these activities.

Council has ordered the cable pontoon materials for installation and will provide the community with a further update closer to construction commencement. A local contractor, JMac Constructions, is delivering these works on behalf of Council.

Townsville City Council is seeking community feedback on certain assets within our parks and open spaces in order to ensure balanced and responsible budgeting, and value for money for our residents.

Residents are invited to have their say on the utilisation of the Northview Lagoon platform structure located in Idalia in order to determine community appetite for maintenance or removal of the structure.

Townsville City Council thanks you for your contribution in identifying value for the betterment of our parks, open spaces, and wider community.
