An overview of the feedback informed Council of the following:

  • General support for the road and pathway renewals
  • Support for investment in the Townsville City area
  • Support for improving the overall connectivity within Palmer Street

Council has successfully completed the Works for Queensland renewal project. Photos of the new and improved roads & pathways can be found in the Images Tab.

Council thanks you for your valuable contribution to shaping our roads and footpath infrastructure.

Palmer Street is a vital part of Townsville's transport network; supporting numerous businesses, multiple residences and importantly provides a connectivity link between the Port, The Cruise Ship Terminal, the North Queensland Stadium and the City.

Funding has been allocated to undertake works on Palmer Street within the boundaries of Plume Street and Morehead Street.

Upgrades to Palmer Street will focus on improving road and footpath infrastructure and creating one way traffic heading towards the port between Plume Street and Morehead Street.

Construction will begin in early 2020 weather permitting.

New features will include:

  • 5 metre wide pathway renewal on the right hand side of Palmer Street adjacent the businesses and residents
  • 11 additional parallel parking bays
  • One-way traffic Port bound between Plume Street and Morehead Street
  • Traffic Island

Initial consultation with key stakeholders, including business and property owners in the immediate area has indicated full support for the proposal.

You are invited by Council to review the plans for Palmer Street, found in the documents on this page. To provide feedback, please complete the short feedback form on the bottom of this page.
