About the project

Townsville City Council is undertaking early planning for the playground renewal at Reana Park and is seeking community input to co-design the renewal.

Reana Park represents a vital community asset intended to gather everyone in a fun, welcoming and comfortable environment. A re-design of the current playground layout could improve the parks' function and amenity.

While any improvements to the playground are not yet part of Council's Capital Works Program for construction, community feedback will help determine the preference for the replacement playground equipment. It will also help support potential future grant applications and funding opportunities.

Moving the playground

Council has assessed the existing playground location and recommends that the playground relocate to the area shown below:

Benefits to moving the playground:

  • More space to play, the proposed new location has a larger area available for expansion, with better linkages to open space and pathway connections
  • Better visibility for parents and carers of children using the play space
  • Protection of existing trees, should the play space be renewed in the current location, tree roots will compromise the fall zones for play equipment, which becomes a safety concern

Community Feedback Sought

Council is seeking your input to understand better the way the community use the park and would like to know the following:

  • When and how you currently use Reana Park
  • What you love about the park
  • What improvement you would like to see
  • Do you support the relocation of the playground

Your valuable feedback will provide community guidance regarding Council's future decision-making and planning opportunities for this park.

Your thoughts and contributions are vital to our planning. They help us make the right decisions to ensure that the playground meets community's and visitors' needs now and in the future.

Next steps

Council will review and evaluate all survey responses and feedback. The final design will consider these while adhering to Council's playground design guidelines and standards. Council will continue the community as the planning of this project progresses.
