Saunders Beach Park Renewal
PROJECT UPDATE (DECEMBER 2024) - Saunders Beach Park Playground Renewal
Thank you for participating in the public consultation, held from 28 October to 29 November 2024, regarding the Saunders Beach Park Playground Renewal in Saunders Beach.
Council is reviewing all survey responses collected during this engagement. Feedback has been compiled in the community consultation report, accessible in the documents tab on the right-hand side of this page.
About the project
Townsville City Council is undertaking early planning for the playground renewal at Saunders Beach Park and is seeking community input to co-design the renewal.
Saunders Beach Park is an already popular and well-developed District Park with picnicking facilities, a well shaded playground area, and designated camping area. A re-design of the current playground layout could improve the parks’ function and amenity. For more information on Townsville’s open space areas, park types and hierarchy are available to view – located in the right side of the page.
While any improvements are not yet part of Council’s Capital Works Program for construction, community feedback will help develop the vision for the playground renewal and seek potential future grant applications and funding opportunities.
Community Feedback Sought
Council is seeking your input to understand better the way the community use the park and would like to know the following:
- When and how you currently use Saunders Beach Park
- What you love about the park
- What improvements you would like to see
Your valuable feedback will provide community guidance regarding Council's future decision-making and planning opportunities for this park.
How can you get involved?
Council invites you to participate by providing feedback on the potential renewal of Saunders Beach Park playground by collaborating with us in the 'pre-planning' phase of this project.
Your thoughts and contributions are vital to our planning. They help us make the right decisions to ensure that the playground meets the community's and visitors' needs now and in the future.
Although Council has yet to adopt this project into a future year's budget, community feedback will help prioritise it and identify potential future grant applications and funding opportunities for its delivery.
Council values community feedback on all our projects and invites surrounding residents and park users to participate in the below survey.
The survey will be open for public participation from Monday 28 October to Friday, 29 November 2024.
Next steps
Council will review and evaluate all survey responses and feedback. The final design will consider these while adhering to the Council's playground design guidelines and standards. Council will continue to update the community as the planning of this project progresses.
