Summergold Park Playground Renewal
Townsville City Council is undertaking early planning for the playground renewal at Summergold Park and is seeking community input to help co-design the upgrade. These upgrades aim to improve recreational opportunities, enhance safety, and ensure the park continues to meet the needs of the community.
Summergold Park currently features two recreational zones:
- a playground and picnic area accessed from Summergold Street, and
- a basketball court and picnic facilities accessed from Fremont Street.
Following a review of this community asset - particularly the playground's proximity to Summergold Street - Council is proposing changes to improve the park's layout, usability, and safety features. At the same time, Council is planning a future upgrade at Shoalmarra Park to enhance play value and offer a wider range of inclusive community facilities.
Your feedback will help co-design these projects and guide decision-making for future planning and funding opportunities.
What is being proposed?
Summergold Park - Stage 1
Council proposes to:
- Decommission the existing playground on Summergold Street.
- Install outdoor fitness equipment in its place to create a healthy, active space for all ages.
Shoalmarra Park - Stage 2
Council proposes to:
- Renew the existing playground to increase its play value.
- Improve inclusiveness, accessibility and usability for a wider range of community members.
Why are these renewal project important?
These improvements aim to:
- Enhance recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
- Encourage active and healthy lifestyles.
- Increase access to inclusive community facilities within local suburbs.
