Wordsworth Park Upgrade

PROJECT UPDATE

In 2020, Council invited the community to provide feedback in relation to a playground renewal project proposed to improve the overall user experience within the park. The project received 1,100 visitors to the page, with 100 responses that has provided Council guidance in shaping this park, and more importantly future open space parks within our region.

 An overview of the feedback informed Council of the following:

• General support for the park and equipment
• Support for investment in the Woodstock area

Community Consultation – Round 2

Council engaged with residents and key user groups of Wordsworth Park on Wednesday 4 December to provide feedback resulting from the survey and advise of the process moving forward.

As a direct result, the Wordsworth Park playground will be upgraded. Council would like the community and users of the park to choose which playground they would like installed by voting for either Playground Option 1 or Playground Option 2.

Council would also like the community to advise which features they believe would enhance the park and user experiences by selecting 3 of the following options:

• Upgrade the existing half court to a multi-use court
• Additional Shade Structure
• Additional BBQ Facilities
• Additional Water Bubblers
• Footpath to connect car park to playground
• Shade planting
• Additional seating
• Picnic shelters
• Wayfinding signage from the highway
• Additional comments of possible infrastructure installation/upgrades.

Council will upgrade the irrigation in conjunction with the park upgrade.

Consultation

Residents and key user groups are encouraged to have their say throughout January 2020 about what playground and new embellishments they would like to see established in Wordsworth Park.

Round 2 consultation will close Friday, 31 January 2020.

Townsville City Council is committed to providing parks, sporting fields and recreational areas that promote active lifestyles, bring people together and contribute to the wellbeing of our city.

Background

Wordsworth Park is the only park space in the suburb of Woodstock which Council recognises as having the capacity to be developed into a district destination park that serves Woodstock and the surrounding residents.

Community consultations encouraged community members and key stakeholder groups to have their say throughout April 2019 regarding the facilities they would like to see within Wordsworth Park .

A survey was conducted, which closed at 5pm, Tuesday 30 April with a total of 81 responses received. Council thanks all participants for providing their input in shaping the parks future.

Key findings that Council received from the survey were:

• Provision of electricity to the park
• Improving barrier fencing to prevent unauthorised vehicle access
• Improve lighting
• Upgrade the playground
• Improve the parks irrigation.
