Allambie Lane U-turn Facility - Public Consultation Round 2

PROJECT UPDATE
After a second round of public consultation on the proposed and revised Allambie Lane U-Turn Facility, construction has now been approved to take place starting Tuesday 13 October 2020. A copy of the delivered Works Notification can be found in the Documents Library on this page.
Works may involve:
- traffic management including traffic control and some road closures
- closure of the footpath and some parking bays
- safety fencing installed for pedestrian and vehicles
- flashing lights
- noise
Normal work hours are 6am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 6am to 2pm on Saturday. In exceptional cases, work may be required outside these hours.

About the project
Townsville City Council plans to construct a School Bus U-turn facility at the intersection of Allambie Lane and Sterritt Road.
Council has received a community request to provide this infrastructure to provide long term road safety improvements for all road users travelling to and from and/or near Rasmussen State School.
As part of these works, Council will:
- construct and seal a paved asphalt U-turn facility
- widen the Allambie Lane left-hand turning lane at the intersection of Allambie Lane and Sterritt Road to allow bus turn movements
- install new drainage culverts and re-profile the existing table drain.
These works will not include the install of bus stop infrastructure.
Public Consultation - Round 1
A period of public consultation regarding this proposal ran from 10 February 2020 to 28 February 2020, which gathered valuable community feedback on the core objectives of this project. Respondent submissions were received by Council via the Have Your Say Townsville (HYST) online platform, which was supported by a boosted social media effort and localised letterbox drops to ensure a wide reach.
This consultation was based around the Have Your Say Townsville (HYST) online platform, whereby respondents could register and provide opinions and additional comment on this project. Through the HYST platform, Council received 13 registered respondents, who submitted 12 additional text comments.
Key findings that Council received from this consultation were:
- Importance of investment in safe transport infrastructure;
- Concern regarding design and location;
- Concern regarding cost benefit;
- Support for the project based on importance of providing services; and
- Support for extension of existing bus routes and further development of a bus stop.

Council has listened and revised the concept design based on the community feedback received throughout the initial engagement process.

How long is the public consultation period?
Public consultation on the proposed Allambie Lane U-turn facility will run from Monday 20 July until Friday 07 August 2020.
