PROJECT UPDATE 

Following consultation with the community, Townsville City Council has upgraded the playground with modern equipment including two climbing towers, three slides, a flying fox, climbing ropes, swings, soft-fall flooring and a carousel.

The new equipment has further enhanced Bluewater Park’s reputation as a destination park for Townsville parents and children.

Council received $247,000 to install new playground equipment and $343,000 for upgraded irrigation from the Australia Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Based on feedback received throughout the course of this consultation, Council is renewing the playground equipment within Bluewater Park, Bluewater 🌳

Works commence Friday 11 March and the new playground is expected to be open Wednesday 27 April 2022 (weather and conditions permitting).

Quality green activated open spaces are a priority for our residents, workers, and visitors. Park renewals will create better quality open spaces for everyone to enjoy, help keep our city cooler, and support biodiversity in our local region.

Council will renew the playground equipment and community facilities within Bluewater Park, Bluewater to deliver on this commitment.

This project is funded by the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI Program Round 2).

The LRCI program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council welcomes you to participate and have your say on this project. Your feedback will contribute to shaping this park, and guide Council on decision making and planning for the future.

WHY IS THIS PROJECT NECESSARY?

1. To improve recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy.

2. To promote child development through play.

3. To increase inclusive and all-abilities play spaces in Bluewater.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS PROJECT? 

As part of this project, Council plans to:

  • renew the existing playground equipment
  • install new sand and rubber softfall
  • renew the existing park sign
  • renew the existing irrigation within the playground area and field
  • landscape the area.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED? 

Council values community feedback on all our projects and invites residents and surrounding visitors of the park to participate in choosing a preferred playground design from the two selected options via the simple poll that is located below.

How long is the consultation period?
