Townsville 2032 Legacy

Are you part of a community sporting organisation, or are you a member of the community and have an idea which will contribute to Townsville capitalising from the Brisbane 2032 Olympiad?

We want to hear your ideas on how we can maximise the benefit Townsville receives during this exciting time and ensure Queensland delivers ‘A Games for all Queensland’.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a once in a lifetime opportunity for not only South-East Queensland, but the state as a whole. Hosting the world’s greatest sporting event will create a decade long pipeline of opportunity for both Queensland and Townsville.

Townsville City Council is actively pursuing opportunities to secure a lasting legacy for our local community from the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This includes but is not limited to;

  • Renovating or repurposing existing facilities to enable Olympic standard sports infrastructure and provide locals with access to high quality facilities before and long after the Games.
  • Hosting international qualifying events.
  • Providing a host stadium venue when Southeast Queensland facilities are unavailable during Games preparation.
  • Develop a long-term program of sporting events for the region, including attraction plans for gaps in the program.
  • Becoming a northern training hub, enabling climatisation experience.

Building our shared legacy from Brisbane 2032 can start now and provide enduring benefits long after the Games, and Council is passionate about advocating for our City and capitalising on these opportunities in support of growing Townsville.

  • How can we use this moment to create the maximum benefit through projects and ideas that can be accelerated because of the Games?
  • What can we start now that will deliver community benefits before 2032?
  • What can we deliver that would create bigger benefits in the 10 years after the Games?

Have Your Say

This survey will be the first step in public consultation and help Council form the basis of a Sporting Infrastructure Delivery Strategy and Implementation Priority Plan.

Council would like to hear your thoughts and ideas to capture these opportunities and help shape our Strategy:

  • What are Townsville's strengths when it comes to sporting infrastructure?
  • What can Townsville improve when it comes to sporting infrastructure?

Help us bring your legacy ideas to life by completing the short survey found below.

The Townsville 2032 Legacy survey will be open for feedback until 5pm Monday 31 July, 2023.
