Oonoonba Park Masterplan
Townsville City Council, in partnership with Saints Cricket Club, is developing a draft masterplan for Oonoonba Park.
Oonoonba Park is a valued neighbourhood park located near the Ross River, supporting informal recreation, community facilities and local sport. The draft masterplan explores how the park can continue to meet the needs of the wider community, while supporting junior, mixed and women's cricket into the future.
Partnerships between Council and sporting clubs play an important role in delivering sustainable and inclusive infrastructure. These partnerships help improve facilities, attract external funding, and support healthier, more connected communities.
Before the draft masterplan is presented to Ordinary Council for endorsement, Council is seeking feedback from the community on the proposed Masterplan to better understand the communities' views and concerns.
What is proposed?
The draft masterplan provides a long-term vision only and does not confirm funding or construction timeframes. Concepts explored in the draft masterplan include:
- Cricket ovals to support junior, mixed and woman's cricket
- Training nets and supporting infrastructure
- A shared clubhouse and community facility
- Improved pedestrian connections
- Landscaping, tree planting and revegetation
- Improved accessibility and inclusive amenities
Any future upgrades would be subject to further design development, approvals and funding.
What are we seeking feedback on?
Council is seeking feedback on the overall direction and guiding principles of the draft masterplan, including:
- How the park functions as a community space
- The balance between organised sport and general park use
- Access, safety, shade and comfort
- Opportunities to improve inclusivity and usability
This consultation is not seeking feedback on final designs.
