Consultation has concluded, thank you for your time.

Townsville City Council plans to upgrade the intersection of Sturt and Fletcher Streets.

This project is funded by the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

Black Spot projects target those road locations where crashes are occurring. By funding measures such as hard median barriers at dangerous locations, the program reduces the risk of crashes.

As part of the works, Council plans to install several hard-median barriers at the intersection, manage property accesses and realign the pedestrian/cycle path.

Fletcher Street northbound and southbound traffic movements will also change. As a result of this change, right turn and through movements will no longer be available when exiting Fletcher Street.

Council has scheduled these works for the 2019/20 financial year and will contact nearby property owners, tenants and residents before works begin.

Community Consultation - Round 1

Residents were encouraged to have their say throughout October 2019 about the initial concept design for the intersection upgrade of Sturt and Fletcher Streets.

A survey was conducted, which closed at 5pm, Friday 08 November 2019 with a total of 19 responses received.

On-site meetings and forums with community members and key stakeholders were also held.

Survey results are found on this page in the 'Document Library'.

Community Feedback

Key findings from the survey were:

  • Improve parking
  • Improve traffic flow
  • Update road signs
  • Maintain vehicle access in and out of Jones Street
  • Incorporate a designated cycle lane
  • Accommodate pedestrian traffic

Community Consultation - Round 2

Council has listened and revised the concept design based on the community feedback received throughout the initial engagement process.

Residents and key user groups are encouraged to have their say on the revised concept design throughout January 2020. The revised concept design can be found on this page in the 'Document Library'.

Round 2 consultation will close Friday, 31 January 2020.

This consultation has now concluded. When finalised, the public consultation report will be made available for public viewing in the Document Library to the right. Thank you for your time.
