Townsville City Council is committed to managing flying-fox roosts in urban areas.

As part of our commitment, Council, in association with Ecosure, invited community feedback from Friday, 12 April, and Friday, 7 June 2024, to inform the development process for a Flying-Fox Roost Management Plan.

A community consultation report and a draft copy of the plan are now available for download in the documents section on the right-hand side of this page.

About the project

This plan will provide Council with a framework to manage flying-fox roosts in the LGA, focusing on five urban roosts. It includes short and long-term options to support residents while encouraging coexistence with flying foxes.

Community Feedback Sought

Council is undertaking a second round of consultation and is seeking any additional comments or suggestions you may have regarding the progress of the draft plan.

Your valuable feedback will provide community guidance regarding Council's continual improvement of our roost management activities.

How can you get involved?

Council invites you to participate by providing feedback on the plan and collaborating with us in the drafting phase of this project.

Your thoughts and contributions are vital to our drafting. They help us make the right decisions to ensure our management activities meet the community's needs now and in the future.

Council values community feedback on all our projects and invites the community to participate in the survey below.

Have Your Say

The survey will be open for public participation from Monday 30 September - Friday 25 October 2024.

Next Steps

Council will review and evaluate all survey responses and feedback. The final plan will consider these while adhering to the Council's wildlife management guidelines and standards. Council will continue to update the community as the plan's development progresses.

This Flying-Fox Roost Management Plan was developed with funding support from the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, 2021-2024 Flying-Fox Roost Management in Queensland Program.
